Maintenance/Water Changes
A 25 gallon water change is made each week (Saturday or Sunday) with AquaCraft Marine Environment (ME) salt. Water is filter with a Kent HI-S Maxx 60 RO/DI unit. Salt and water are mixed and then allowed to circulate overnight prior to making the water change.
Make-up water is automated and depending upon the pH will be supplied either via the RO/DI unit (> 8.24) or the kalk reactor (< 8.09). An Ultra Life float switch ensures that the Mag Drive pumps don't run dry.
Algae growth is removed from the glass almost daily with the help of a Hammerhead Algae magnet.
The sump is made from a 55 gallon aquarium and houses the ASM G4+ Skimmer and a refugium. Filtration in the refugium is completed by SeaChem Matrix and Chaetomorpha macro algae. Water is sent via the Mag 24 to 2 SCWDs and into the tank via 4 pvc connections. The Mag 18 delivers water to the TradeWind 1/2 hp chiller and then returns to the tank. The Mag 18 also supplies water to the 3 UV units and also supplies water the refugium.
Air is pumped from the Ozonizer into the venturi of the ASM G4+ skimmer.
Internal Water Movement
2 Tunze 6100 stream pumps ensure that no water goes unturned. The 6100s keep a ring type flow and are controlled via a single Tunze controller. In addition to the streams the SCWDs push water 24/7 in 4 different directions. Watch the video on the home page for some impressive wave action.
Night Lights
A Lunar Tracker 5 moonlight system ensures that the reef is kept lit in accordance with the moon phase schedule. These little lights are impressive and if you want to keep your corals happy check them out.
